Auf dem September-Cover der britischen „Vogue“ sind 15 berühmte Frauen. Ausgesucht hat diese Herzogin Meghan, die die Ausgabe mitgestaltet hat. Sie selbst wollte nicht auf das Titelbild.

Herzogin Meghan (37) hat die September-Ausgabe der britischen „Vogue“ mitgestaltet. Auf dem Cover ist aber nicht sie selbst zu sehen, sondern 15 Frauen, die Prinz Harrys (34) Ehefrau bewundert. Meghan ist das erste Mitglied der königlichen Familie, das an dem Magazin mitarbeitete.

Die September-Ausgabe gilt bei der „Vogue“ als der wichtigste Titel des Jahres. Unter den Frauen, die es als „Wegbereiterinnen“ auf das Cover geschafft haben, sind Prominente, Politikerinnen und Aktivistinnen, die sich für Themen wie Vielfalt, Transgender-Rechte oder Klimawandel einsetzen. Auf dem Titelbild zu sehen sind unter anderem die Schauspielerin Jane Fonda (81), Aktivistin Greta Thunberg (16), die Models Adwoa Aboah (27) und Christy Turlington (50), „Orange Is the New Black“-Star Laverne Cox (47) oder Neuseelands Premierministerin Jacinda Ardern (39).

Meghan wollte nicht auf das Cover

Der Chefredakteur der britischen „Vogue“, Edward Enninful (47), erklärte, Meghan selbst wollte trotz Anfrage nicht auf das Cover, weil sie dies für „prahlerisch“ gehalten hätte. Stattdessen wollte sich die Herzogin auf die Frauen konzentrieren, „die sie bewundert“ – aus der ersten Reihe „von Mode, Film, Technik und Wellness“. Meghan hat laut Enninful auch Inhalte für das Magazin ausgewählt. Die Herzogin ist laut Medienberichten nur auf einem Bild in dem Magazin zu sehen, im Büro einer Organisation, die benachteiligten Frauen hilft, Arbeit zu finden.

Sieben Monate soll Meghan an dem Projekt gearbeitet haben. In dem Magazin gibt es unter anderem ein Interview mit ihr und Michelle Obama (55) sowie ein Gespräch zwischen Prinz Harry und der Verhaltensforscherin Jane Goodall (85), wie es auf dem Instagram-Account von Meghan und Harry heisst.

Kritik an Meghan

Dass sich Meghan für politische Themen stark macht, wird allerdings nicht nur positiv gesehen. Die britische Politikerin Ann Widdecombe erklärte in der „Sun“, dass sich Royals aus der Politik raushalten sollten. Ingrid Seward vom „Majesty Magazine“ sagte, die Herzogin hätte dem Magazin damit einen grossen Gefallen getan, der königlichen Familie aber nicht.

Auf der Titelseite der „Vogue“ waren bereits einige royale Damen. Prinzessin Diana (1961-1997) und Prinzessin Anne (68) zierten das Cover mehrere Male. Auf der Jubiläumsausgabe der „Vogue“ war 2016 Herzogin Kate (37) zu sehen.
